The Seventh Annual APAA Youth Music Competition will take place May 4, 2008, from 10am - 3pm.  The competition is located on the Alexandria Campus of the Northern Virginia Community College, Tyler Hall, 3001 North Beauregard St., Alexandria VA 22311.  For directions see http://www.nvcc.edu/alexandria/CampusInfo/directions.htm.    Parking is available in a garage across the traffic circle from Tyler Hall.  Look for the APAA banner directing you to the Competition.

The competition is open to students in grades 5 through 12 in piano/keyboard, voice or instrumental and in all styles (classical, pop, broadway, jazz).  First place winners will be invited to perform in a public recital and award ceremony at The Lyceum in Old Town Alexandria on May 31, 2008 at 4pm.

The application fee is $45 (non-refundable) for each applicant/category entered.  Deadline for application receipt is 18 April.  A reduction in fee on the basis of need is available. To request such a reduction or for other information send an e-mail to: n.khazenie@ieee.org.  If you do not have access to a computer, call (703) 731-7557.

HOW TO APPLY:  Registrations of applicants are being processed by means of a computer-based ticket service and credit cards.  You access this service by visiting InstantSeats.com, then click on Alexandria Performing Arts Association, then click on the Music Competition button. You will be asked to fill out a computerized form.  This form is using software designed for the sale of tickets.  Any time the form refers to a “ticket” you should understand that in this context a ticket = a registration.  Most of the form is completely understandable.  When you reach the point where the service is entering your e-mail address you will be asked to enter a password.  This password is any combination of letters, symbols and numbers (6 characters minimum) that you care to enter.  The password is a private identification for you.  It is useful if you are entering more than one division or applicant – is saves time for a second or subsequent application.  [Remember what you use for a password – if you enter the same competition next year it can speed up your registration.]

Registration “on-line” is fast and reliable.  It will greatly simplify the processing of your application.  If you run into difficulties with “on-line” registration you can direct an e-mail or call the address or number above and a paper application will be e-mailed or faxed to you.  NOTE: The deadline for registration is April 18.  Paper registration is slow and cumbersome and applications arriving after the deadline will be returned to sender.

SEE YOU ON MAY 4!
